They may look as slim as ultrabooks, they may have features similar to ultrabooks but these two new Series 9 notebooks from Samsung are not ultrabooks. Announced not too long ago at CES, here’s a redesigned 13” Series 9 notebook from Samsung and a brand new 15” that will be launched by end of next month, carrying a price tag of USD$1,399 and USD$1,499-plus respectively. From the images, they may look as slim as a typical ultrabooks but the company isn’t going to position these premium machines as one though, they also pack a specifications very similar to an ultrabook under the hood – Core i5 processors, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, 6 hours of battery life, backlit keyboards and weigh as light as a mere 1.13kg.  “When designing the new Series 9, we focused on improving key elements that our customers loved in the original award winning Series 9, including the sophisticated, lightweight design. Our engineers worked very hard to develop the amazingly thin form factor and one of the most compact chassis in the world, which allowed us to house a 15-inch display in a 14-inch chassis. We also made changes to the new model based on customer feedback, such as the inclusion of a 1600×900 high resolution screen, to truly make this a top-of-the line, irresistible laptop that represents the ultimate in Samsung precision engineering and premium design.” — Todd Bouman, vice president of product marketing at Samsung Enterprise Business Division Other notable features includes a slim profile of 1.27cm, the thinnest chassis ever that houses a larger display, a SuperBright Plus LCD display with 400nit, Samsung’s Fast Solutions technology that allows the Series 9 to boot up in less than 10 seconds, and the company’s Easy Settings that makes it effortless to connect to Wi-Fi, projects and more.
